Ethan Allen Youth Club
Parent & Member Letter
January 12, 2008
Below is a list of meeting dates and activities for 2008. All meetings generally run from 1-3 (occ. until 4). All other activity times are TBA at a later date:
The club will try to stick to this schedule as much as possible. If something comes up that we haven’t planned for, I will let you know as soon as possible.
The first activity of the year will be the Hoosier Horse Fair. We will take a couple vehicles to the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds for the day. Admission is required and tickets can be purchased ahead of time. I’ll find out more information and let you know departure and arrival home times. Let me know if you’re interested. HHF is a whole day full of equine activities: clinics, shopping, horse demos, eating and oh, did I say shopping? and of course we end the day with the High School Rodeo! It is tons of fun! We want to also have one or two judging teams to participate in the judging contest in the morning. We’re working on getting girls together.
The Youth of the Year contests are held at the various locations listed above and consist of a general horse knowledge test, speech on a given topic (about 2 wks. before the competitions) and an equitation pattern. Your child would need to be totally prepared for these competitions and have proper show attire for the riding pattern. Costs involved would be for hotel stay, transportation, meals, and stabling costs of the horse at the competition (divided equally among participants going). There is usually no fee to participate in other clubs’ contests unless the participant is in the senior division. You will need LOTS of practice riding time! Please be prepared to DEVOTE yourselves to this type of competition. You will need to learn your riding pattern and perfect it which will consist of scheduling riding times at the barn. If you cannot obligate yourselves to this type of schedule due to other commitments, then please do not do it! Also, some of you have your own horses and can work out your own riding times independently.
We will be focusing a lot on the AMHA Horsemastership program this year and helping you pass your levels of achievement. If you have any questions, please see me.
We will do another educational display that will be taken to Oklahoma for Nationals in October. We would also like to put together another scrapbook of this year’s activities.
We would like to have a judging team for local competitions and possibly Nationals. A team is made up of four. We are looking for at least two more girls, any age. If we have a lot of interest, we can make up two teams! If you’re interested, let me know. I can talk with you individually about competing in judging.
Last thing I would like to discuss is your MEMBERSHIP. The Ethan Allen Youth has switched to a Jan.-Dec. yearly membership. 2008 memberships are now due and are $5. Make payable to Ethan Allen Youth. Also, you must be a member of the American Morgan Horse Association to participate in Youth of the Year contests and the Horsemastership program. Those dues are $15. I have included forms for you to mail in. When you get your member ID number, please let me know so I can record it. Last, I would encourage you to join the Indiana Morgan Horse Club. This is our parent club which helps support many activities that the youth participate in. Cost for IMHC is $30 (family & single is the same cost). I have included a flyer which describes the Indiana Morgan Horse Club and what they do. Please turn in your IMHC membership form to ME ASAP and I will submit them all in one package (unless your family joins annually). As the flyer states, this allows the IMHC Newsletter to come to your house. There will be a section of the newsletter devoted especially to the EAY.
If you have ANY questions or concerns, please give me a call or send me an email @ 765-358-3395 or firstname.lastname@example.org. I will always send a reminder email 1-2 weeks ahead of meetings and activities. I will also send schedule changes through emails. Please put my email address into your address book so it doesn’t go into your spam folder.
I am looking forward to a fantastic 2008!
Erica Frazee, President
